Members Present Cheque for £200 to Charity of the Year

Members of Telford Business Club will present a cheque for £200 to the Telford and Wrekin Young Carers Service at this month’s meeting.

The charity, which has been supporting young carers aged 5-18 since 2006, was the club’s charity of the year for 2015.

This month’s meeting will be held at The Best Western Valley Hotel in Ironbridge on February 9th from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

Sam Warner, of Get Your Message Across, who is a trained professional speaker and currently Area 39 director for Toastmasters International, will be the guest speaker at the meeting.

Mike Barrett, an independent financial advisor, will be the member speaker at the event.

Kirsty Smallman, Telford Business Club chairwoman, said the group had chosen Telford Young Carers as its 2015 charity of the year because of the excellent work it does in the community.

She said: “The charity has so much advice and information for young carers and also helps encourage them to take part in new activities and make friends with other young carers. It’s a vital service in our community.

“The money means the young Carers will enjoy a day out – a day of respite from the daily care work they do for a parent or a sibling.”

The club will also announce Telford Crisis Network as its Charity of the Year for 2016 at this month’s meeting.

The cost to join the Telford Business Club is £150 a year, which includes a hot meal at every meeting on the second Tuesday of the month.

Visitors can attend at a cost of £15 per meeting on two occasions before deciding whether to join the club. All places have to be booked in advance due to catering.

Telford Business Club does not charge an additional monthly fee and does not request people to send a substitute.
